I just about threw my phone in shock in the middle of the school library. I literally had to catch my mind before it finished the action. (9:58)
*SHRIEKKKKKKS* (10:16)
I said that no book would ever be better than Shadowkeeper. I said that there was absolutely no way Healer’s Bane could ever be better than Shadowkeeper with my cutie and his scarf.
I was wrong.
WRONG!
Healer’s Bane
Hope Ann
“Kynet never planned to be at the forefront of the rebellion. That was her brother’s hobby: rallying the people. Plotting against the leaders. Running into dangers she’d have to negotiate him out of. That was before the Poisoner tried to kill her. Left with strange powers in the aftermath of his attack, Kynet is even more convinced the rebellion isn’t worth it. For every life her healing saves, ten more are wasted. But her quest to stop the carnage before war breaks out will bring her face to face with the man who tried to murder her… and with her own helplessness against a grim reality she may not be able to change.”

Now that the giveaway is over…
So, the blurb is good! It’s rather original (in the best kind of way) but honestly, it didn’t really burn a whole of desire in my stomach like Shadowkeeper did. BUT LISTEN HERE I DON’T ADMIT MY FAULTS BUT I WAS WRONG.
We are once again placed in the world that is similar to the one Cedra and Pethra was in, but this time is seems we are more in the future, in a small town that is teeming with shadows, death, mist, and rebellion. Kynet is a normal girl who receives the power to heal people (similar to Pethra, just without being able to also spontaneously grow moss just because) and struggles the entire book with finding the fine line between taking care of herself, healing everyone, and being more than she can physically be. It’s literally wonderful.
The story is riveting, edge of your seat, demanding your attention. Nyan is just annoying enough for you to hate and care about him at the same time, Kynet is such a relatable and understandable main character, and FREAKING EAN.
EAN IS NOT A CRUSH, HE IS THE BEST LITTLE BROTHER EVER.
WE ALL NEED AN EAN IN OUR LIVES *begins to sob*
Also the setting is so cool, because this is basically the feel of the setting in the book.
Again, this book had no dull spots. It had no slow parts that made your grind your teeth. Nothing was meaningless. It was all intense, important. I LOVED it. I THRIVED off of this book, alright guys?
Hope 👏 Ann’s 👏 stories 👏 are 👏 EVER-👏 -Y-👏 -THING!
(okay, I promise never to do that again, lol, I just do that in real life and decided something this good needed to be emphasized appropriately.)
THE MOST IMPORTANT PART?
MORE IMPORTANT THAN SHADOWKEEPER’S SCARF (*wraps self in said accessory*) AND EAN AND HIS CAKES?
The ending.
The ending was EVERYTHING you needed it to be.
Hope Ann gets a
for satisfying endings I’ll tell you what!
Okay go buy it now.
So this is my life now basically. I don’t read anything until I read Hope Ann’s stories, I make the most informal, excited book review ever, then move on with my life (*weeps over the health work I have to frick-diddly do*) Is it a bad life? No. I am satisfied.
I was given a free copy in exchange for a fair review.
