If you guys don’t read this book you are wrong.
Wrong.
You have to read it.
Okay, pretense done, now to the actual review, heh…
Shadowkeeper
Hope Ann
“Death can die as easily as any other man. Cedra has kept her sister safe for years. None of that changes just because Pethra got herself kidnapped by Death himself. Claiming the questionable aid of Death’s weary older brother, the Shadowkeeper, Cedra forces her way through mist and shadows in pursuit of her hapless sister. But Death wants much more than he has revealed. A wish that will splinter her and Pethra’s world no matter what she chooses: death, or a chain. Loosely inspired by the stories of Hades and Persephone and Castor and Pollux, Shadowkeeper will sweep you into a world of wavering mists, shadowy passages, and the love of two siblings fastening them with ties stronger than Death himself.”

Okay, the blurb is gosh freaking great and guess what? It literally does not do this book any justice. The book is SO GOOD.
The main characters are Cedra and Pethra, two sisters with the power to create/ effect things. Cedra can make rock form out of anything, and Pethra can do so with moss, yet Pethra also has the ability to heal others and is a travelling healer who feeds off of starlight.
Not cool enough for you yet?
Well you’re wrong, kiddo.
Between her introduction and take on magic, Death and the Shadowkeeper and their abilities to shapeshift, the ‘Rift voice’ in her head trying to help, and just EVERYTHING ABOUT THE CONTENT, this book is basically one of the best books I’ve read in a really long time.
Probably, like, top 5 best books.
The story never got boring or confusing, it was seamless, interesting. I gasped so many times and it was literally the best roller coaster of emotion and intensity.
I have not been able to finish a novella or book or anything of the sort in a long time, no matter how much I wanted to read it, but THIS BABY RIGHT HERE.
You’ll be rooting for Cedra and begging for Pethra to be save and hating Death and- just– agh! It’s so good guys!
Also, Shadowkeeper is cute as diddly dang. New fiction crush, hands down, no questions to be asked.
I want a sequel for more of my scarf-y boy.
AND THE ENDING GUYS.
THE ENDING.
I’m not quite sure how a book can be this good, but it is.
And you have to buy it.
Right now.
Please.
Also if you do and she reaches her 200 books in 48 hours goal, she’ll release a paperback version and I need a paperback.
So this was basically the most informal thing I’ve ever done, but you guys have to understand how stunned I was by this novella. Hope Ann did an amazing job. I was offered a pre-order copy in exchange for a fair review.
